So, is sitting too long really that bad for your health? Bluntly stated, yes! It can be harmful for your health. However, many of us live sedentary lives. We sit at work for at least eight hours, then we come home and sit in front of the TV. We can get into these bad habits for many reasons. Maybe you get home from work and you’re tired, you don’t feel like doing anything else, so you turn on the TV to catch your favorites. It’s easy to get into this routine. However, sitting too much is dangerous.
Sitting for long periods can cause your body to ache, from your joints to your muscles. Poor posture is often a culprit of neck, back, and hip pain. Plus, excessive sitting can cause weight gain, because you’re burning less fat. This can add to health issues and increase your pain. Sitting too much can even hurt your digestive system or cause muscle fatigue.
This can turn into a vicious cycle, because you feel sore and tired from sitting too much that you don’t want to do anything. However, you have to break the cycle in order to start feeling better.
