It is acknowledged that empathy plays a critical role in the physician-patient relationship and positively impacts health outcomes. As we have learned from extensive research, the capacity for empathy is not merely an innate trait—it is also a skill that can be learned and expanded. Research has demonstrated that medical professionals who communicate with compassion have higher patient satisfaction ratings. (Riess, 2012). In addition, effective communication between clinicians and patients actually improves the patient experience, which ultimately leads to improved clinical health outcomes. We will explore the critical ingredient of empathy in our webinar.
